Spring Break with Danielle
Not your average spring break! I gave Danielle the choice between SCUBA diving and going snowboarding. She had enough of the cold weather and we drove with a neighbor to Florida. The weather didn't cooperate, which kept us out of the ocean- but we did get to go canoeing down a tributary of the Peace River. We looked for fossils and artifacts and came back with better and bigger teeth than we've gotten at Venice, so Danielle was satisfied. She wasn't so happy about the deer skull which I put on the front of the canoe! I went crab claw hunting at the Skyway bridge- my first time. The current was stout, the water murky- but it was a success- we got a crab claw appetizer when we ate with our friends in St. Pete. To give a contrast to that murky diving, we went to Ginny Springs- a freshwater spring (I think Danon water comes from there) in northern Florida. The water was delicious- it was funny drinking the dive water. Ginny was the opposite of diving in the bay- we had so much visibility- and we explored the Ginny cavern- but the best dive was Devil's Eye- where spring water blasts out of a fissure and mixes with the tea-colored water of the Santa Fe and swirls above you- a sight that can't be described. It was a great time.
